We’re all familiar with sites or ads that somehow magically know where you are located, right down to the city. This is called GeoLocation. These applications use your IP address to figure out your location. In this video I’m going to show you how to perform this at a high-level. We will obtain a user’s IP address and find out what country they’re located in.
This is useful if you want to build a localized/translated website or even display custom content based on where your user is located as described earlier. We’ll be using a free GeoLocation Country database from MaxMind. They also offer other databases if you wish to obtain more detailed information such as city, ISP, etc.
